Things haven’t been great recently… IT band bothering me quite a bit the past week, so I went up to killington, VT, but couldn’t snowboard at all while I was there. Instead, I water-ran and biked. Plus I spent a bunch of time in the weight room. Since the IT band is still hurting today, mccaff told me to take off through Friday and then call him about going to practice Saturday. He wasn’t planning on putting me in the divisional meet anyway though, so no biggie. Plus, its still early in the season, so the number one priority is to get back to 100%. My improved focus on core and upper body strength has helped me improve my running form significantly though. I can feel a definite improvement, especially on the hills.
I’m also either slightly sick or having mad allergic reaction to something, cuz I’ve had a runny/stuffed nose and scratchy throat for the past 2 or 3 days. No other symptoms though, so at least I don’t have tuberculosis.
College essays are blowing horribly. There are a few of the essays where I can say that I am legitimately proud of them, and they are actually good representations of my personality. The only problem is that these essays are for schools that are reaches for me, and I’d basically be relying of the essays and SATs to get me in by making up for a slightly lower GPA. I’m not super confident about the rest of my essays. I suppose they’re passable, but nothing special.
I watched Beyond the Clouds: The Promised Land. It was better than 5 centimeters per second in terms of plot, but the animation was worse. The backgrounds were still amazing though. Just that I think they got lazy while animating the people in some scenes whereas in 5 cm/s every frame was basically awesome.
Xmas was pretty good. This was one of my better years of giftgiving, where I actually managed to figure out some pretty sweet gifts. (Metal spork is right at the top of the list along with that other crazy kind of spork.)
I played a ton of melee while up in VT with oscar. I’m using a bunch of low tiers most of the time b/c then at least its justifiable in my own mind when I play like garbage.
Watched oscar’s band play today at Middletown library. They were pretty good today. Went to Applebee’s with them afterwards. Had to explain to C. Wu why ppl call her C. Wu now.
Since my sis is in London studying abroad at Cambridge next semester, my parents are going absolutely apeshit for Skype since it saves a ton of money for making calls. This is kind of like the time when my mom discovered that if she woke up early in the morning and logged onto Gmail and used Gtalk, she could chat with my sister cuz she would still be awake doing work. ( 7am eastern time = 4 am in Cali)
I think my farming is actually improving somehow. No tangible results to show for it, but just a feeling. I guess shit starts growing once you relax more about it all and don’t sweat the small stuff. Try it Sam. If the Northern Flint ain’t growin’ no more, diversify and start crop rotating to reap the most benefits. (As long as you aren’t particularly picky about which of the vegetables you’re growing you’ll get to harvest the most of)
Who do our teachers think they are, giving us homework over the break? They should all be well aware that most of us put our apps off until the winter break to finish up, unless we got in early to our first choice. Except none of us did because we’re asian and the extra hard work that we put in in order to do better in school apparently is meaningless to certain bigoted schools because apparently certain others should be getting handicaps just because on average they tend to do worse in school. Ughh, I still have this horrible grudge against said schools. AA is a horrible system that penalizes people for something that they have absolutely no control over. Sort of like slavery and segregation.
Besides the whole getting into college thing, I just want to run fast and have a good time for the rest of senior year.
