FLNE was today. I didn’t do very well, but nontheless, I’m relieved XC is over cuz i’m pretty much burnt out after 6 months of it. Sadly enough, I can’t say that I’ve ever been legitimately satisfied with my performance during XC seasons despite putting in a ton of mileage and doing well in practice. There’s just been a mental block that’s really screwed with me everytime i’m on a course that just happens to be 5000 meters long. Anyhoo, it’s been a good 4 years of XC, but I guess I won’t be missing much just yet since the training and people will be essentially the same for the final 2 seasons of track. On a happier note, George qualified for Nationals, so he’s off to san diego in 2 weeks.

I set up XBMC Live and installed it on a flash drive this past Tuesday. I’ll most likely invite people over for movies in the coming months b/c I can play all of my movies off of the comp onto the plasma screen and through the 5.1 system. (in HD bitches!) Also, my dad is probably going to get new speakers (at least replacing the front 3 channels) so it will be an exquisite experience. The XBMC software is very intuitive and very simple to use (as long as your computer doesn’t have ATI graphics, cuz then it fucks up the strangest things. Luckily I’m a pro and I replaced the .dll file that it somehow lost…). It uses very good video decoders, so even with a so-so computer, you can still manage to play 1080p H.264 content very well. XBMC is probably one of the best examples of open source software out there at the moment, and it pretty much owns any commercial alternatives. The only caveat is that there’s no interface to set up the WLAN so I’d hafta go into the command line to do it, and even if I did, 802.11g probably isn’t fast enough for HD content, especially if obstructed by my computer being in a wall console. Hence, I’ll hafta run Ethernet cables through the floor to the wall console.

Spent thanksgiving at oscar’s house playing melee almost the whole time. Also rewatched Juno, which is a ballin’ movie. Michael Cera is a beast.

Finished watching Minami-ke Okawari this weekend. Can’t wait for 3rd season this January. Got further in Darker Than Black. It gets a lot better in the middle episodes.

Gotta figure out Christmas gifts. Decent budget for gifts this year since I had a summer job. Getting gifts for people in school that I think will probably give me gifts plus a few others because otherwise everyone will just get shitty gifts that had no thought put into them. Quality over quantity. I’m not looking for anything in particular for myself this holiday season because my tech need have been fulfilled. (Pandora, new desktop.) Anything thoughtful is nice.

Sweet, I can officially break out my holiday-themed anime wallpapers since it’s past thanksgiving. (Come to think of it, need to become a photoshop pro this summer!)

Tons of college essays left. I haven’t done any of the essays for my schools that are on the common app. I’ll save at least a few until after I hear back on my ED. Gawd, I can’t hope enough to get in ED.

I need to talk to more girls. I only talk to Paco on a regular basis, and as a result, she bears the brunt of the inherent awkward (but admittedly amusing) sexual tension that comes from Bert talking to girls. (Although sexual tension is practically a cornerstone of ABFAFship, so it can’t be abandoned) (That’s a lie. If Paco were a guy, I’d probably still be tight with her (Or him. Wait. How do hypothetical pronouns work? I think it should be him) (But if you are a guy and you have orange hair, don’t talk to me. Seriously. You probably can’t pull it off the way paco does. It’s her natural hair color. Just like all other Asians. The rest of us just choose to dye our hair black.) )

Just hold on, two more weeks and hopefully EA/ED college acceptances. After that, partay. (If I don’t get in, it’s an essay partay) (Dammit Joe, it’s all your fault I feel like such a tool for that last sentence.)

So in the end, we didn’t qualify for the MoC. 17:24 was the team average, off by .4 s for qualifying. I ran 18:06, 6 seconds off my PB. Fuck, I was running 75-85 miles per week, mostly with jayram and galasso, at the end of this summer and I still only managed 18:00 for the season? Fuck. I better screw on my goddamn head for track season. People run fast when they’re pissed off.

Last week, ran w/ monga, george, and occasionally tai and dave to prepare for footlocker northeast/help george not run alone in preparation for MoC. Defining workout on Friday: 2xtoploop, 3 min break between each. (7:49, 7:46) It would be great to run a good 800 for the first time this year. I should be pretty ready considering I tied my PB in October during a workout after doing 2×2mile at sub 11 min. (800 pb at 2:12. Pathetic for a 4:46 miler. I shouldn’t even be above 4:40.) If I can hit about 2;04ish, then I’m very confident that I can hit 4:27. And perhaps I’ll return to my sophomore racing form and break that 1.5 year old 3200 m PB. (It’s not very helpful when people say “Oh, that guy was fast as a sophomore”) Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves though. There’s still the FL Northeast Senior open race. Last XC race for HS. (Thinking about running in college still. I want to train to make it onto the Columbia team if I get in, but making the team is a really long shot. Plus, Lampell’s not even on the team anymore, so it wouldn’t really be the same =[ )

Black Friday deals are disappointing. Checked all the leaked ads, and not much in the brick and mortar stores. (Camping out is hardly ever worth it, but even less so this year. Save your tents for a new console launch or something.) I’ll check the internets to buy some stuff online though. Some of the online deals are pretty hot. Can’t justify any PC upgrades this holiday season though, since the computer is less than 4 months old and still blazing fast. (Unfortunately, haven’t been able to play GRID on it recently. At least 1080p H.264 stuff looks sweet.)

Dad hooked up the old computer to the plasma screen in the living room. I’m gonna install XBMC live on it (probably on flash drive b/c I dun wanna partition the hard drives) Also need to get that PC hooked up properly to the receiver for 5.1 (currently set up for 2.0 b/c we didn’t have the cables yet 2 weeks ago. Got them in the mail a week ago and will probably set up this weekend)

Darker than Black is a sick series. (Wikipedia/anidb.net it paco!) The plotlines are pretty strong and the animation is baller. Also have a huge backlog of anime movies to watch (in 1080p!): 5 centimeters per second (only watched first part before getting disgusted with 1080p on old computer. Haven’t gotten around to finishing it on the new pc), beyond the clouds the promised place (same director as 5 cm per second!), Tokyo Marble Chocolate, Gin-iro no kami no agito, and Memories. Also have at least 5 series that I totally have not started yet. Alas, can’t wait to get into college, when my life will systematically break down into the following priorities: running, computer, smash, anime and movies.

Pandora still might make it before 2009, but it’s probably a bit of a long shot. Can’t wait. Most powerful handheld on the market? Suck on this Steve Jobs.

Went to Pavan’s house on Friday to celebrate the JCs’ birthdays belatedly as well as Omar’s on time. (Cake only said happy bday for both JC’s though. It was a coldstone cake. Yess. Pavan knows how to throw a party. Too bad he couldn’t throw Smash Prom 08.) (Prom considerations still ongoing. Not going unless I find a date. Perhaps I can convince said date to play smash that night instead? I will marry that girl.)

Going to powderpuff? I don’t have anything better to do that night, but not sure if it’s worth the trouble in all honesty.

Decent race at State Sectionals, team placed 2nd wayyy behind WWPB-N, but we were expecting that, especially with coach telling our top 3 guys to hold off a bit to save up for Group 3 next week.

Mitsuwa on thursday – Went with Karl and Rono. Mike Choie cancelled on us last minute cuz he had to go get a haircut. Then when we got to Mitsuwa, we found Mike cuz he went after his haircut, but didn’t expect to see us b/c he thought we were at the “other Mitsuwa” in NJ. What a silly kid! And as I hypothesized we didn’t really see any hot college asians since it was a thursday. (We had off for teachers’ conferences!) Got a box of taiyaki to make my mom happy even though i was gone the whole day. (Had practice at Thompson in the morning, then left right after shower to go to Mitsuwa.) I love eating the tail part. It’s so crunchy.

Friday was time trial for JV/Frosh guys. Frosh kids didn’t run very well since Brian Yeh had a sleepover party the night before. Those silly freshmen and their PS3’s. At least they have LBP and MGS4. Jon Tai ran a good race, hitting 12:04 on the frosh course. Went to Bando (replaced Hunan House) with Oscar and family after pre-meet practice. I actually like the food better now. Columbia interview went OK, could have been better in that I pretty much failed on the question about how I’m similar and different from my friends, but I”m sure it could have been so much worse. The interviewer guy was pretty chill. (He graduated in 86. He says Obama was at Columbia for one year while he was there, but they didn’t know each other.)

Saturday, meet (see above) and then watched 5 episodes of Black Lagoon. (really violent shit, kids. I like it though =P plus Remy is a goddess.) Plus I torrented a ton of anime movies in 1080p. Finished Purdue app/essay by modifying UI essay to better answer the Purdue question. Now I hafta finish the UC stuff. Other essays will hafta wait, most likely till after XC.

Fucking SQRL errors. Had to take out RAM then run memory tests to see which RAM had the errors. Then I used a can of air to clean out both the RAM and the mobo. Turns out none of the RAM was faulty. Just had to clean shit up. Surprising considering I’ve only been using the computer for 4 months.

My dad wants me to learn how to program for the Pandora to make the money spent actually worth it. I guess I’ll have time post-college apps.

How did I waste a 4 day weekend so easily? I guess it wasn’t such a waste if i went to Mitsuwa.

Santosh lost homecoming. He didn’t come in second. He lost. I’m really disappointed, especially since this was something that i was really passionate about.

The dance was even worse than i thought it would be. Only ppl that stayed were paco, george, jeff, mike and robby hoff, cody. Santosh and both JCs left early. Naturally, neither me nor George danced. (We XC guys play it cool) Unless you count about 10 seconds with Jeff then like 40 seconds with Paco. Best 50 seconds evar.

No comment about xc lately. let’s see where it takes me. Kind of want to run in college.

Debating going to prom this year. Smash 09? We’ll hafta see. I most likely won’t go if i hafta go stag, so whether or not i go is probably dependant on who is willing to go with me. (Does it help that i talk to 1.5 girls on a regular basis?)

Haircut. Only heard positive things about it so far, but that goes without saying that most people with something negative to say about it would probably wouldn’t say it to my face. The end of an era.

Columbia and UI apps sent on thursday. Really would like to get into Columbia. Otherwise, I kind of want to go to Cali.

I’ll post again in a few hours probably. need to sleep for prac at 10am
